Silvia Rubinson, Argentina
I have included in my work an etching of the Ten Commandments, extracted from a Torah scroll brought by my family from Europe when they emigrated to Argentina in 1928. I draw, literally, on commentaries and poems that extol the greatness of the Torah, most of which were found in primary and secondary school workbooks of that same period. Finding the original volumes of workbooks in the library of the primary school in Argentina where my grandfather served as a teacher was overwhelmingly emotional. In creating this new work, I discovered how the topic and exploration of my family roots continues to engage me.
Professional Background Silvia Rubinson was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1952, where she lives and works, as both a psychologist and visual artist.
