Vayishlach | וישלח

Lynne Avadenka, USA

Open to this page in the book of Genesis and read: A man, Jacob, a character in conflict, has a strange encounter, a dream; wrestles with an unnamed, unknown presence; survives; wakes in the morning, renewed, permanently injured, and with a sense of purpose. Did it really happen or didn’t it?

Vayishlach is the story of this man wrestling with something he needs to figure out. It is a metaphor and at the same time it is a real example of internal human struggle. What do you accept and what do you reject? How do you find meaning in life? And is there something larger than you that you want to make part of your life?
