Doni Silver-Simons is a painter, installation, and performance artist. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Silver Simons received a Bachelor of Studio Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1973, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Drawing from Wayne State University, Detroit, in 1975. She was in the forefront of that city's vibrant art scene with her powerful solo and group work. In the late 1970s, Silver Simons relocated to Los Angeles and participated in a number of seminal solo and group projects. A recipient of numerous grants and commissions, Silver Simons' work is in many private collections and in the public collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts; the National Endowment of the Arts, Washington D.C.; and the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Ann Arbor. All artists create through the prism of their own being. As an artist, a woman, and a Jew, I create through those prisms. A profound respect for time, concept, and quietude has defined my work. Repetitive patterning is the common denominator found throughout my pieces.
