Artist Statement

"A Moment Before the Sacrifice"

When we think about the sacrificial offerings most of us see, the difficult part, the blood, the suffering, the death. But when I read Parshat Va'yikra, I particularly noticed that unique moment that the High Priest lays his hand on the head of the offering: "And he put his hand on the head of the korban (sacrificial offering)." (Leviticus 3:2). It's a a brief but meaningful moment. It's a moment of thoughtfulness, of compassion and of deep awareness. I chose to paint this instant for, as I see it, support, acceptance and forgiveness are present.

Bio

Anne-Françoise Ben-Or was born and raised in Belgium. She studied painting and sculpture at the Israel Museum as well as the prestigious Jerusalem Studio School under the guidance of Israel Hershberg. Anne’s work has been shown in both solo and group shows throughout Israel. She resides with her family in Nataf, Israel.
